so i’ve been asked out junior high style (meaning a friend of his asked me out for him) three times in my life. once in high school by a boy who had never talked to me in his life. his friend called me on the phone, i’m assuming, while he was sitting there waiting for an answer. once in college by a boy who talked to me pretty regularly. his friend also called me, on a pay phone at the beach. why he told me that information, i’ll never know. once last night at the age of 32. here’s a tip fellas: if you’re going to ask a grown woman out on a date, nut up and ask her your fucking self. ps. no, i will not go out with you.

i have a loin of pork in the freezer. i’m so bored. i’ve been thinking of what i should do with this hunk of meat and have decided on…

1. roasted pork with roasted apples and onions with brussel sprouts on the side.

2. cuban sandwiches. pork, ham, mustard, mayo and pickles. delicious. (2 kinds of pig in a sandwich…always a good idea.)

3. asian bbq marinated pork sandwich with asian slaw. (this one means i get to go to Ranch 99, my new favorite store!)

this is the most exciting thing i’ve done all day. shouldn’t i be at a bbq?

morale is low. very low, indeed. sick for a week. work is the lamest. i had to pass up on singing because i had to be at lame job. at least the immediate future is looking brighter. well, two days off is always helpful and work is still going to be stupid, but i have music plans (hopefully) twice this week and a plan to visit friends in southern california in less than two weeks (with singing involved). so i have that to look forward to.

you know what i think are over rated in the flower department?

although, i picked like the prettiest picture of them ever...

lots of red carnations with no greenery. so pretty. they smell sweet and spicy too. i always want to bury my nose into a big bouquet of red carnations.

i was looking up pictures of yoko ono (i love her. i know this love is controversial. i don’t care. i love her.) the other day and i found a site of “rare celebrity photos” and this one of marilyn monroe kicked my ass. i had never seen it (rare…yes.) and i love it.

wowza, right?

so i’m becoming a bit of a whiz kid in the (soup) kitchen. this is what happens when your cook (aka. sister) moves to seattle. in the past couple of weeks i’ve made sweet potato soup, kale and white bean soup, split pea soup and now i’m making chunky vegetable tomato cream soup. i need to think of a better name for that last one. i’m sort of making it up as i go along. i had this soup in edinburgh last year that was so amazing from this cafe and i’m trying to recreate it with no recipe. i emailed them last night to see if they will give me the recipe…but no luck yet and i wanted to make it on my day off. so we’ll see what happens. i also made jessica’s mom’s puttanesca on friday night and it came out so perfect!! i will never-ever-no-never (probably) buy tomato sauce from a can or jar again. it’s so easy to make and it is SO incredibly more delicious than anything i’ve ever bought. i adjusted that recipe a little bit for my taste; only 1/2 tsp of anchovy paste and about a 1/4 cup of kalamata olives, chopped. if you’re scared about anchovy paste, don’t be. it’s just about depth of flavor and you will not even know it’s there once it’s cooked. seriously, you should try that recipe. it’s awesome! thanks jess for sharing. i think i will start calling it “dirty girl pasta,” because i just read this…

today the guy i work with turned on mumford & sons and it made me happy. mostly to not be listening to the crap he, and everyone else i work with, always plays. uh, hello? have you heard any new music besides mumford & sons in the last ten years? ouch. anyway, “winter winds” came on and i said something about it being my london song from last year… and today i looked up my blog from today’s date last year and i had posted the video for that song. i am missing london so hard core. it makes my throat burn. i wish i was there in my apartment. and by my apartment i mean one with double glazed windows and central heating and air. does this exist in london? in my head it does and it’s basically perfection. it’s probably also within walking distance of borough market.

What would you say if I took those words away…*
